How to choose the tour

Three things decide which Hana Highway day suits you: where you sleep on Maui, how many hours you are willing to spend in a vehicle, and whether you want a shared van or the whole car to yourself. If you sleep in West Maui (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Napili)

Start with the waterfalls and lunch day by Mercedes van: it leaves West Maui between 5:45 and 6:40 a.m., runs 9 to 10 hours and keeps the group to 14 passengers, which saves you the long pre-dawn drive across the isthmus. The private VIP SUV also collects guests anywhere on Maui, so it works from the same hotels with a later, flexible start.

If you sleep in Kahului, Wailuku or the Kihei area

The small-group adventure with pickup and lunch serves a long list of Maui hotels plus a meeting point in Kahului, and the 7 to 8 hour day trip from Kahului is the shortest shared option if you want to be back for the evening. Central Maui is also the base for the small group tour out of Kahului, which caps the group at 8 passengers.

If you want the complete route, not a shortened version

The 12.5-hour Hana coast day trip is the longest day on this site and includes all admission and park entry fees, lunch at Hana Farms and a to-go breakfast. The farm-to-table lunch tour covers Routes 36 and 360 in 9 to 11 hours in a 2023/2024/2025 Mercedes Sprinter van, a good middle ground.

Language and guiding

Every tour listed here is narrated live in English by the driver/guide, so there are no audio devices or app commentary to deal with. The luxury limo-van and the limo-van and helicopter day are led by Hawaii State Certified driver/guides, and the helicopter leg carries its own live commentary in English.

Budget

Shared seats begin at $200 per adult on the Kahului day trip and at $210 on the small-group tour with pickup, breakfast and lunch. Comfort upgrades sit in the middle, with individual captain's chairs from $385 per adult, while private vehicles are priced per booking rather than per person: $279 for the private half day from Paia and $599 for the full private day, which makes the private options competitive for a family or a group of four.

If you are short on time or travelling with children

The private half day runs 4 to 5 hours from Island Fresh Cafe in Paia, with reserved parking, snacks, soda, coffee or tea and boogie boards in the vehicle. For a big view without a 12-hour drive, the 6-hour helicopter combination pairs a 3.5-hour limo-van section with a 36-minute Eco-Star flight and limits the van to six passengers.
